Caithness and the Local Area

MV Freedom departs from Wick Harbour shown in the map to the left. Wick is a small town in the far North of Scotland in the county of Caithness. Wick is well known for its fishing heritage and was once one of the biggest fishing towns in Scotland. Since then the town has quietened down but still remains a fishing town. There are a few fishing boats in Wick and the local fishing is still very good. The area around Wick has many small fishing harbours. These areas are renowned for the spectacular diving spots and scenic coastline. Some of the small fishing villages on the coast include Sarclet near Thrumster , Whaligoe South of Wick and many others. Caithness also benefits from some of the best coastal walks and is a very good holiday location. Near Wick is also John o' Groats the most Northerly point of the Scottish mainland. From John o' Groats you can board the passenger ferry over to Orkney for a day trip or Weekend break. If you want to take you car over to Orkney you can also board the Car and Passenger ferry from Gills. If you are planning to take a trip round Caithness or up to Orkney as well as a trip on the MV Freedom you can contact Colin the skipper via email phone on 01955602558 or when you meet him in Wick boarding the MV Freedom.
